TRE (tension and stress relieving exercises)

16th September | 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

What is TRE?

Simply it is allowing your body to shake

Have you ever seen a dog or another animal shaking? You like all
animals have an ability to shake, maybe you have felt yourself shake
after an accident, or speaking in public, after giving birth or you
may have a body movement like a leg that doesn’t stay still. This is
your body’s natural way to release stress, tension and overwhelm from
the body.

TRE is seven simple exercises that start a natural body tremor and
shake. This shaking mechanism that every human possess is the body’s
innate way to release deep held muscle contraction. Releasing muscle
contraction releases the nervous system, which in turn sends new
messages deep inside the brain. Switching off the part of the brain
that is responsible for flight/flight/freeze, the part of you that
maybe on high alert, fearful, anxious, ready for a fight, frozen,
tired or spaced out.

TRE is a simple thing to do and you will be able to self regulate the
process quickly. Allowing the body to shake, naturally healing and
letting go of stress, tension & overwhelm. TRE is also self-empowering
as very quickly you can do it on your own at home.

TRE is a tool for life, a way to start listening to your body and
allowing more movement. When you change the shape of your body and the
way you express in the world, you change how you think and how others
react towards you.

Come and try TRE, as it’s really hard to describe how it feels, often
people say they feel relaxed, calm and often sleep really well
afterwards and some have profound shifts.

I teach TRE slowly, calmly, with presence, compassion, and a light
filled heart this helps me to hold a safe space, a curious space and a
space full of wonder for our amazing bodies. In this kind of space you
can start to let go safely of things that may have been held in your
body for a very long time or things from the very recent, often we
never know and sometimes we may! I will encourage you to observe your
body, like watching a bird in a tree, nothing to do but to be present
to yourself.

I will be teaching TRE in a small group. Starting by sitting in a
circle I explain some of the science about how TRE works. I will then
teach the exercises, which are done standing up and then lying down to
shake. There will be time at the end of the class for any sharing,
observations, questions or sitting quietly.
TRE is for everyone, it is like sneezing a natural body release – It
can help with so many different issues, in the space of a yoga studio
it can help with flexibly, stilling the mind and grounding the body.
TRE works really well along side other therapies and exercises, as it
crosses naturally between body and mind. Many people like TRE because
they don’t need to talk about their issues to release them.

Come in loose clothes and bring some water.

About Jessie the teacher

My journey out of my head and into my body to my heart began along
time ago although it is only in the last 5 years it became a conscious
journey, through TRE and now Shamanism. Becoming conscious, is
listening to my body even when I would rather not. It is: owning all
my feelings, I call it bringing them home to be heard. This is not
suppressing them inside my body and neither is it sending them away
through blame or judgment. Owning my feelings and releasing them
changes how I view the world. It still amazes me that I change, me!
And the world around me changes.
My path through life has informed the way I teach. It has given me so
many different skills from being a mother, artist, nanny, TRE
provider, Shaman, and energy healer. All these areas have brought
different teachers and guides who have walked with me and encouraged
me to keep exploring deep inside. I assisted at a TRE college London
group for two years and on the teaching program with Steve Haines and
have assisted with Steph Hodgson. I ran a woman’s group in London and
taught TRE at the West London Buddhist Center before moving to
I continue with my learning and self-development. I have a regular TRE
practice and Shamanic practice. I regularly attend 5 rhythm classes,
and I walk in nature where I learn more about the nature inside me.
More personally when I arrived at my first TRE class I had been
diagnosed as having post-traumatic stress, I was anxious and shy and I
found eye contact scary my life was becoming more and more insular.
After the first class I new it was the right thing for me to do. I
attended a bi weekly class for over a year and started learning how to
teach TRE, in that time all my symptoms disappeared. Honestly mostly
it was simple, sometimes I had to go through things that felt harder
but there was something deep inside that new this was the answer and
that gave me courage. As I undid old patterns, I started to feel
lighter, more energetic, more positive and stiller and most
importantly I started to feel more, more of my body and more of my
emotions, feelings and sensations deep under my skin. I describe this
feeling, this aliveness as being embodied, in my body, grounded,
connected to the earth and awake to life.
